Greeting Ladies and gentlemen, just wwondering has anyone had first hand experience with the Dayton 15" IB 385 driver in ob dipole or ripole configurations and how do they stack up. Any comments most welcome cheers fergs

The numbers look ok, however the first consideration is that of driver noise off the back side of the unit when playing 20 Hz. The driver needs to run silent or close to silent when running low frequency in free air conditions. Once you can establish the amount of noise there is you can try it out if it passes the test. This driver is probably a little on the hi side of Qts for a Ripole and a little lo for OB but close enough to work in either design. My guess is that an OB would be your best first choice. Hopefully you will hear from those who own this driver and you can find out more from them. Regards Moray James.

I have two of these for stereo subs (only one built so far) and I am quite impressed with the low end extension of these.
The one is being use as my sub w/o eq. and is in a 22" U-frame, no fill and still needs to be braced. I was curious how much panel flex there would be in a U-frame so I left it as 3/4" mdf for testing (1.5"baffle-17"X17"). FYI, OB/Dipole may behave as a velocity source in a room, but the box experiences very high pressures and the panel vibrations are easily visible from 3-4 ft away.
So with that build info and with the fact that it is just placed in the room and no experimenting has been done to find the best spot for it here is the graph using a Radio shack meter and manual calibration at about 2m:
