I need another AD1865 but there are none available via the Rochester group buy - just wondering if anyone is interested in a trade for a pair of AD1862s (which were purchased via the group buy)?
I have a few lying around. I purchased them from AD distributor about fifteen years ago.I need another AD1865 but there are none available via the Rochester group buy - just wondering if anyone is interested in a trade for a pair of AD1862s (which were purchased via the group buy)?
Designing a new casing is taking forever, the Chinese suppliers want me to send them the drawings in .dxf format and that is something which is taking me a long time. Meanwhile I decided to put a couple of DACs in the casings. For first one I repurposed an old cable amplifier and put the DAC along XMOS inside the casing. I decided to keep the PSU separate, although I did not experience any oscillation or ripples in the PSU.
The PSU is connected to the DAC via 5 pin connector, the supplier identification says it is GX16-5PIN.
There are two different test beds. One is Yamaha A-1000, it is fully recapped and restored by myself. The sub is a monster. Connected to B speakers.
And the other is my recent acquisition Lo.D (hitachi) vintage amp I purchased from an old gentleman who wants someone to take care of his favorites as his age doesn't allow him to do so, it is a work in progress. Insides have been cleaned and recapped, few switches need replacement which will happen in the next few day, power amp needed recapping and new lights in the VU meters.
Results are not just pleasing they are surprising.
Despite various test, the best results I found were with OPA627, LME49720HA, AD8610 and bursons. XMOS sounded horrible as compared to an original amanero, but once I changed the crystals they are not 100% at par with Amanero but pretty close.

@soonmo
- desolder away R4, R5, R6, R7, TR1, TR2 (I assume you do not have adequate setup equipment for this feature, so it is better to let it empty)
- Combo384 configuration: Stream format: I2S, Word length: 24 bit (64fs) ... maybe 32 bit can work
- in PC settings - Control panel - Sound - configure the device for 24-bit 48kHz first ... and try another configurations as well
74AHCT164D is not problem. Can you swap AD1862 chips between each other? If the same channel will sound, you will find that both ad1862 chips are good. Do the same with opAmps.
Finally I found the problem. AD1862 was broken because -12v power was not supplied to the OPA of the right channel due to a wiring mistake. After fixing the error, after replacing 1 AD1862, everything worked fine.
It's a great match for my hybrid preamplifiers and tube power amps.
Thanks for sharing a great DAC circuit.
Here is a link I recorded with a cheap USB condenser microphone.
happy New Year.

Thanks for starting my day with this beautiful tune. Great that your dac is working and you found the problem. Excellent work Soonmo!Finally I found the problem. This looks like a brilliant project. I've just ordered some boards to build the DAC, PSU and I2S SPDIF/Optical and a load of parts from Mouser - looking forward to another project.
