Keep your opto - its great because the ground in your new nice DAC don't get contaminated by the shitty TV ground.... thanks to galvanic isolation. Opto - the ultimate interface... but not many gets this....

"You can do this if adding an extra hole to your case really bothers you, but IMHO the better option is a bulkhead mount BNC in a new round hole and leaving the Toslink alone. All you need is a small cap and 2 resistors.:
Will you please give an idea how to do that, some drawing - I am not am engineer, just listener 😉
 
Sorry, sorry. I got confused and mixed up everything. The real problem is that the source I am using has only optical output and the DAC has only coaxial input. I am very sorry for confusing and wasting your time. Since I can not or do not want to change the input of the DAC would be preferrable to change the output of the source. Triyed the chinese convertors unsuccesfully /on top I beleive they are spoiling the quality of the sound/. So please exuse my ignorance again and will try to use your suggestions above
