This is a wild thought. Here at work we use an Alesis HD24 to record 8-channel audio for playback in our movie theater and planetarium. The HD24 has digital optical inputs.

Anybody know if those digital optical inputs are software-compatible with the digital optical output of your standard home-video DVD player or pre-pro?

We'd love to have true 6.1 audio in our theaters!

I always thought the HD24 had 8ch optical ADAT inputs. DVD optical outputs are either IEC 60958 (2ch AES/EBU or SPDIF) or IEC 61937 (AC3/DTS etc.) and neither are compatible with ADAT.
