Hi everyone,

I thought I saw a post about this but couldn't find it ...

I just bought a CHEAP DVD player for $20CAN (that's like $15US!).

I'm in the middle of making a transport from a CDROM with PLAY/PAUSE and FF/EJECT buttons but this DVD was cheaper than the case I was going to put the CDROM in... !!!

It's a Nova DV-P511 and I set the digital output to SPDIF/PCM and the volume control on the remote still worked--must be just lopping off the bits--YUK!

I switched the digital output to SPDIF/RAW thinking this would output the straight digital signal but the volume still works?!?

With the volume at full, does this affect the digital signal?? Am I loosing sound quality?

Thanks,
Jeff

Full volume no, attenuated yes.

The RAW setting refers to how DTS and Dolby Dig signals are put out. If you can not accommodate DTS and DD (probably if it is a DAC and not a Surround proc.) then better set everything up to SPDIF.

DTS into an SPDIF only input creates horrible noise!!!!!!!

That is the way I understand it.......

Yes, me too. (No, I'm not an AOL user. hehe)

The DVD player should work fine as long as you leave the volume set at max.

I recently bought a Philips DVP642 for $US59 for use as a CD transport. It works very nicely. I'd prefer to stick with one of the major brands, but if yours works, then you've saved some money.

🙂
