canadian and expressvu sound?

I use an Expressvu VDSL terminal and use the AC3 connection to my external DAC. The internal DAC in the set top terminals are not that great quality. In fact, on some channels it would overdrive the input stage on the analog out, producing tremendous clipping type distortion yet be distortion free via the external DAC.

a external DAC good idea Mikett but your distortion
problem confirm my opinion for the sound of
expressvu :-(

i have no digital output on my 2700 but i would like
to get details of your setup

-what kind of digital signal is AC3 PCM or ?? or special modulation

-your chip ic number DAC

-if i change my box for 3100 is it possible to get the same setup

thanks

As Mikett is undoubtedly talking about one of the receivers with built in Dolby reception, then no, you can never get this with a 3100. As was stated in that thread I linked to, if you do the Toslink hack on the 3100, you can get 2 channel stereo PCM out of it. Of course it will work with an external DAC; that is my setup: by using the digital connection my surround receiver is doing the D/A conversion and not the DAC in the 3100.

I still haven't figured out the details of what signals are carried by ExpressVU's VDSL ( Video via fiberoptics/phonelines). Some signals are AC3 and some just PCM. My terminal is a Motorola one but I'm sure the raw signal is the same as satellite feed.

it s a good project for next winter 🙂

i m newbie with AC3 but if i understand
AC3 and dolby are the same thing

leadbilly you get 2 pcm out but is it possible to do:

1-a digital converter from PCM to PWM

2-a digital PWM amplifier

3-a L/C dac just before speaker

maybe the sound would be very good with 0% distorsion
because all digital
