Im curious to know if any one has tried poplar wood for a cabinet material instead of mdf? And if so how where the results? I read a review in TAS about the MAGICO creator and his opinion on mdf vs birch ply-wood, which got me thinking of other alternatives. I have only used mdf so far but would like to try a solid wood to see if it makes musical instuments sound better?
Hi Justin,
I have used a poplar plywood for 3 sets of boxes and found it to be nice to work with. It was a maple veneered 1" multi-lam. I think it's more suitable than poplar hardwood as the cabinet is not really supposed to add it's own flavour to the mix.
I would also be concerned about the stability of it.

Hi,
Cal is on the money about stability and avoiding "tuned" enclosure panels.
You can read here about the pros and cons of different cabinet material.

And a lot of everything else aparantly. 😉
I finally gave up following it, because it took off into in to many directions.
