I have just completed Tim's BV1 project using 20 mm thick plywood panels and RS-40-1197 speakers in a bipole mode. It has home/hand made wooden phase plugs and two coatings of PVA glue on the cone surface. After 200 hours of burning in, it sounds great and looks great too. They look pretty good (as far as the little picture shows). I wish I could get my hands on a pair of those drivers. I've been wanting to build a pair of fullrangers, but don't want to drop the $$$ on a pair of Fostex drivers or the like just yet.

Having seen and heard how these Fostex clones/copies (RS 40-1197) perform, I would not mind spending the bucks on the real things (Fostex 103 or 108). They seem to be getting better and better. The tonal quality is spot on. Imaging is great. The bas is more than enough for my taste. I have tried all sorts of music, everything from Pop, classical, rock, country, Indian classical, Jazz, blues etc. Whatever I throw at it, it seems to play it well and I am really impressed. Even the wife thinks that another 10-15% improvement and they can replace the Dali 450 speakers in the main room. I am listening and progressively coating the speaker cones to get the right amount of treble and midrange/bas balance. I know for sure that I do not need the tweeters here.

Upgrading the front driver to an FE103E would not be all that expensive. The FE103E had a nice looking black frame so it would make the enclosure look that much better. Not much point in upgrading the rear driver. The 40-1197 supposedly has more bass than the FE103E, but is not as nice in the mid-range and not as extended in the HF.
