I’m assembling a 5.1 AV system for home use from scratch, and I’m looking for some advice. (I know … this is a dyi site, and I’m talking about buying, but good advice is good advice, and hard to come by.) I’m looking to spend $10-15K for the whole setup. (HDTV+DVD+SP+Amp+speakers)
I’m starting with the amp and am considering the ATI AT3005. (http://www.ati-amp.com/at3000.html) It’s a "5x300 WRMS/channel into 8 Ohms from 20Hz to 20kHz with no more than 0.03% THD and I.M. distortion".
So what’s the word on ATI amps? Are they a worth considering? What else should I look at in the same ball park? (List $3200, available $2300) (http://www.reliableaudiovideo.com/Details.asp?ProductID=1180)
What about Carver’s Sunfire TGA5400 (5x400)? (http://www.sunfire.com/TGA5400.html)
Is there another site that might be more appropriate for those of us whose money exceeds their technical abilities?
