I do not have any 3/4 birch at the time. I do have a lot of 1/2" Baltic birch, and could laminate it together, for 1" material. My question is, if the front baffle width changes, doesn't that mess up things in the engineering? The cabinets would be a half inch wider than engineered for.
Keep the baffle as per design and extend the depth to maintain the internal volume. Total depth at 15" should make the trick.
The only thing to pay attention to is not restricting airflow, make sure the driver has enough space to breathe, both on the baffle and the lateral panels. See here for an example: chamfering driver holes

baffle step is not that accurate, it will be fine. .. .. .. mordikai is correct
You could / should machine either a 0.5" edge bevel or edge quarter round to both reduce edge distortion and come closer to the original design baffle width.
Well, the speaker is the Carrera. And I am not thinking about a gentle .5 or .75 roll over on the edges. I'm talking about a BIG 2" roll over on the left and right edge. ( Think the Vapor Audio Cirrus roundovers ).
In the end, the 8" wide speakers become 12" wide. But the extra 2" per side is
added via an instant 2" roll over. Sooooo, does that big roll over effectively make the front
baffle wider, and mess up the sound, or is it okay BECAUSE it is an immediate roll over?
I am going to do it, IF it will not mess up the Carreras sound.
