I have an old cab from like the 70s and i want to make a new cab for the speakers.
The cab contains 2 15inch 16ohm speakers. i was wondering how i could wire those together for 8 ohms.
I have a line 6 spider 3 head with two 8 ohm outputs on the back. could i wire 2 inputs with 1 speaker to each in the cab? or would this not work
I really am not to smart with wiring.
And I have never seen another 2X15 guitar cab :-( is there a reason for that? i love the lows of the 15s though!
Please help me out. thanks

Aesthetics. The footprint of the 4x12 cab is the standard so everything can be stacked. That's why you often see 4x10's and 1x15's made to the same dimensions as the 4x12. Of course, that's no reason to not build your cab exactly how you want it.
been thinking
thanks for the help.
I was thinking about how dumb a 2X15 cab would look.
So maybe i could just buy two 10's or 12's and possibly build 2 different cabs with one 15 and one (10 or 12)
Or 1 cab with 2x15's and another cab with two 10's or 12's
just a suggestion though. As long as both cabs are wired for 8 ohms each it would work i think.
Let me know what u think about that>?
heres a few pics of this piece.

BE CAREFUL !!
If your amp is the Line 6 HD150, it has two outputs of 8 ohms minimum each, this amp is stereo and you can´t use only one of the inputs or connect them in parallel.
If this is the case, you can connect one 16 ohms speaker to each channel. The amp can handle speakers with more ohms but not with less. If your amp is the HD75 (like mine) you can connect the speakers in parallel to obtain 8 ohms because this amp is mono. Don´t worry to ask about.

Geez, maybe it's my age, but I would prefer the cab they're already in
Why don't you just invest in new vinyl and grille cloth and restore that cab?

Depends. On some Line 6's each output has it's own LM3886. If this is what he has then 1 driver per chip is the batter way to go.

But what I mean is ,should'nt an 8 ohm speaker sound louder(on volume setting 5 for example) than a 16 ohm on the same volume setting?
By the way do yous like my new avatar?
Re: Re: been thinking
Well I have played out of this cab using only 1 output for about a year and had no problems.
Id really like to use the full power of my head though, so only using 1 output doesnt seem good.
And yea this cab is OLD! got it outa some old ladys basement for free so i cant complain. I really dont like the looks of the cab though, id much rather build a new 1 for it.
would 2 15's fit in a typical 4X12 size cab? Kinda like this.

Ok, if your head is stereo and you are using it for about a year with only one output connected without problems, you are lucky !
Line 6 clearly express that this is very dangerius. Why not connect one output to each speaker ? In this way your amp will be using 16 ohms by channel, the total power of the amp will be less than using 8 ohms but more safe, and if you use only one ouput the total power will be the half, remember that the HD150 is 75W per channel. About the size, of course you can !
I was making a 2x12 cab for my Line6 Spider III HD75 that is almost completed, it´s a fun job.

I will start building my 2X15 cab this weekend, with 1 input so 8 ohms. then once i finish that cab im going to buy two 12'' speakers(16ohms each) and make another cab to hold those two speakers. So i can really use the power of my head. 1 output for each cab.
I think the hardest part is going to make them stack
But thanks for all the help. those links gave me a way better understanding of what im going to do.

Re: Thanks
I´m happy to help. But you can build only one cab with your 15¨ speakers and the new 12¨ ones. One 15¨and 12¨ by channel (16 ohms in parallel = 8 ohms). I think that is more easy to build one cab instead of two, and more cheaper too.
We are waiting for your pics, I gave my camera to my father because he´s on holidays now. But when he returns, I´ll take some pics to my 2x12 cab to show you.

But if i build 1 cab with two 15's and two 12's wouldnt that have too be a huge cab? And really heavy. plus i really wanted a stack. id rather make 2 cabs
alright ill be witing for those pics, and posting some soon.
I also had a question about porting. do i need some air ports?
