Hello all,
I wonder why there is no high sensitivity proven designs or kits available. I looked everywhere in parts express catalog, madison, css, gr research and others without little success. Css has a mtm that they claim is 90 spl, but its a grand for the kit. Madison has another mtm kit, but I couldn’t find any reviews on it.
So my questions is why do are so many kits especially the budget kits 84 to 86 db? Is it that there are no good quality drivers that are also sensitive?

Nice! I think I looked in their site before and the kit was out of stock. I ended up buying the klipsch RP600 II on special.Designed by the late Jeff Bagby. 90db. Glenn
No, they just came in yesterday!! I got them off Crutchfield, so I have some time. I do like them so far, much better than the emotiva B1+ on my Denon Avr. Do you own these, if so, how do you like them?Is it too late to return them?
I do not own them, but based on Jeff, and all that have heard them, I wouldn't hesitate building a pair, if an mtm with hifi drivers was what I wanted. I don't think that you could touch these for the money, and again, Jeff. Read up on him and all that he brought to the diy community. Glenn.
Yeah, I’ve heard of him. I know that he is super well regarded as an excellent diy speaker builder. Sad that he is no longer around. It just seemed to me at least that there aren’t more higher sensitivity bookshelf/ stand mount speaker kits out there.do not own them, but based on Jeff, and all that have heard them, I wouldn't hesitate building a pair, if an mtm with hifi drivers was what I wanted. Yeah, if want sensitivity look for diy projects with big drivers. One could get sensitivity up with horns but not many DIY kits float around, and they get huge quick.
Simplified, the more there is total cone area the more sensitive a system is given reasonably flat frequency response and wide bandwidth. If speakers need to be small, then low frequencies need to be reduced to maintain flattish frequency response with high sensitivity. Luckily this is fine, separate bass system would likely give better sound anyway, could be added later date, hid into furniture and so on. Unfortunately, bigger things usually cost more, I hope you find what you are looking for! Have fun! 🙂

Oh I understand. In smaller speakers, high sensitivity and decent bass are basically mutually exclusive. Since watts are cheaper these days, most people will give up high sensitivity to improve bass extension.
Yeah, that is also one of the reasons that I was looking at bookshelf/ stand mounts speakers.Unfortunately, bigger things usually cost more, I hope you find what you are looking for! Have fun! 🙂
I was thinking of building the Uluwatu kit, but the lack of a flat pack is what scares me. I have no idea how to make a cabinet, let alone a big cabinet like that one.
? spl ? here's some-
