I open this thread to propose the 6 inputs board for the Bruno Putzeys preamplifier and understand if there is sufficient interest to start a GB.
I designed this board for my own Bruno preampli. I need more than 2 inputs and I want also a rotary switch in the front panel with a LED indicating the input selected.
The 6 input board measure 216 X 53 mm and the switch board measure 50 X 42 mm
To use the input board the following components should NOT be installed in the Bruno preampli:
- R1 – R9 – R11 – R18 – R29 – R36 – R38 – R45
- C1 – C2 – C3 – C5 – C18 – C19 – C20 – C22
- D8
- K1 – K2
Each one of the 6 input use the same parts. You can also use less inputs, just avoid to populate the parts and use a proper selector
So, in the input 1 you should solder:
- R1a – R9a – R29a – R36a (b, c, d, e, f for the other inputs)
- C1a – C2a – C18a – C19a (b, c, d, e, f for the other inputs)
- D8a (b, c, d, e, f for the other inputs)
- RL1a – RL2a - I changed the relays ID because they are different from the Bruno BOM. The new relays is the G6K-2F-Y 12VDC
I am lazy guy, so in my board I mark in the silkscreen only the input 1 as the others are identical but I will mark all the other parts in your board 🙂
The board have 3 connectors for ribbon cables 10 pins:
- Selector – To be connected to the selector board with a ribbon cable F/F. The function of the pins is clearly indicated. The relays are powered with the +12V as common fix connection and the GND is switched to activate the input.
- Input – This to be connected to the Bruno board in the central pads of the K1 and K2 that are not installed. The L+, L-, R+ and R- are clearly mentioned in the silkscreen of the board
- Output – This to be connected to the pads of the J2 and J8 that are not installed
In the board are allocated all the input and output XLR connectors. The board is designed for the NC3FBV1 for the inputs and the NC3MBV1 for the output. They have the screws that mating connector shell to pin1 and front panel as required, are easy to be installed in the panel after soldered, are available in Mouser and are not really expensive.
The most difficult part for me was to found the correct screw for the connectors. Finally I found a shop that have the correct one, if are interested let me know and I will include them in the bag.
I also designed (but not yet realized) the input selector board that is connected to the input board through a ribbon cable. That will make easy the installation and the connection with the input board. I choose a normal rotary switch from e-switch KC-26-A-30.0-01-N-L-S available in Digikey and Mouser. Is not so expensive and make nicely his job
In the selector board there is the connection for the +12V that is needed for the relays and LEDs and can be taken, as I did in my preampli, in one of the K1 or K2 pads where the +12V are available
I attached the printout for the rear panel drilling that match the PCB and the printout for the front panel drilling for selector and LEDs.
The minimum target to start the GB is 20 boards that is also the minimum quantity to have a decent board’s price. I can just estimate that for 20 pieces, the price of the 6 inputs board will be around 15USD and the selector board will be around 10USD. As usual increasing the quantity will decrease the unit price
I can also offer the boards with the SMD parts already soldered. The pricing will follow as soon I get an idea of the quantities
I will start putting my username and the qty. So, if interested please add your name just below
Thanks and Regards,
Enrico

How do you carry 6 inputs with a 10 position ribbon cable? You need hot (+) and cold (-) for each input, just that would require a 12 position ribbon and this is without the gnd connected accounted for?
Thanks
Do
Thanks

Hi Do,
The 10 ribbon cable just send to the preampli board the 4 signals (L +&- and R+&-) plus the GND. The switching is done in the input board. In each input there are 2 relays engaged by the selector.
I hope it's clear 🙂 I will post a schematic as soon I am back home

Enrico

Enrico, can these boards can be used for other design as well?
I am thinking of ordering more if they can be rescued for other preamp as well. They should not have any specific logic to the pre amp right?

Hi aradan,
Yes, the boards can be used for others preampli as well. It's just a nice switch with the pads for the parts required in the BP preampli that, in case, can be just avoided.

Enrico

Great, thank you and these can be used with SE inputs as well right, just joining the ground of left and right inputs?

Hi aradan and all,
I want just to make clear that the "soldered SMD" option is relevant to ALL the SMD parts in the input board. Mean 24 0,1% SUSUMU resistor, 24 caps, 6 diodes and 12 relays.
In particular for aradan... I understand that you want to use the boards also in other preampli. Please confirm that you need the soldered option for all the 8 boards.
Thanks and Regards,
Enrico

OK got it. I did not think about it his way. Than I will need 4 soldered only. I'll fix it

Enrico, I think it might be worth mentioning in the main Group by for Bruno Putzeys pre amp. As there would be some components that should not be populated on the pre amp as well. As the part of smd soldered version. Or we should than desolder them manually
