Hi dear all,
since there are quite many QUAD ESL57 refurbishing threads here on the forum I would like to post some images of the
QUAD ESL57's modern german 'sister', a licensed product called BRAUN LE1 from the early sixties.
Some images of the original EHT unit, not suspended in bee's wax but within a transparent plastic box.
Could somebody identify the rare high voltage diodes marked "SIA" (or "S1A"), silver and black circles, golden leads ?
Just asking because of documentation purposes, not asking for current substitution alternatives.
bye,
FrankieS
I only ask for documentation purposes not for substitute alternatives.

This S1A diodes are early high voltage diodes. I know them (I think) as they had a tendency of breaking near the diodes body. I don't think a data sheet can be found anymore so no new Unterlagen. A lonely one is roaming around in my part boxes.
They were often replaced with 3 kV rated diodes.

there have been questions on this board on the audio transformer specifics of the ESL57.
the audio transformer windings situation of the BRAUN LE1 as of the original documentation is as follows:
primary: 96 x 0.5 mm2 copper strand
secondary (treble): (2 x 4700 center-grounded 0.07 mm2 copper strand)
secondary (bass): 9400 x 0.07 mm2 copper strand in series with treble part [i.e., I guess: 2 x 9400: 9400-4700-ground-4700-9400]

The cca. sum 28 000 turns secondary is good interpretation IMO (like at QUAD ESL-57). The 0,07 mm2 cross section seems too thick. Maybe 0,07 mm diameter?secondary (bass): 9400 x 0.07 mm2 copper strand in series with treble part [i.e., I guess: 2 x 9400: 9400-4700-ground-4700-9400]
Most likely, but without a datasheet we cannot determine the color code. The latter number indicated with a color isn’t it?
yes, diameter possible. The cca. sum 28 000 turns secondary is good interpretation IMO (like at QUAD ESL-57). The 0,07 mm2 cross section seems too thick. Maybe 0,07 mm diameter?
