I am looking to build a simple 50W i.c. based amp for a small Bose monitor speaker.

Out of the several chips mentioned here which is the most transparent and audiophile-like??......preferably without "SPIKE" protection circuitry that sounds horrid if overdriven.

There is a lot of discussion & experience over the Amp Chips DIY Forum.

There are also 2 active related threads right here:

What got me interested in these gain klones was a JoeList (heavily SE tube amp oriented) post on a chip amp one of the Joes put together. The amp got excellent review.

I have a pr of 1875 and a pr of 38xx something to try (free samples from Nat Semi)

Of all the chips I've tried the best sounding was the LM1875, not 50W, but 20W or something. Check it out, also it's very easy to work with. Do indeed look over the amp chip diy forum dave mentioned, for there are some much nicer circuits then the one in nat semi's data sheet.
