I've built a set of Aleph 3 amps, each with a CLC power supply. I've got 44000uf + 2.2mH (0.28ohm) + 66000uf on each rail. I'm considering upping the inductance to 3.9hH (.150ohm) - 6.8mH(.250ohm). I'll looking at erse 14ga inductors. Would I get any benefit from this?
Your wallet will be lighter, if you have back problems it may help.
Unless you have very high efficiency speakers it won’t do much.

Thank you for the info. I've tried to model this in PSU Designer II without luck. Other than less ripple, I would end up with a slightly higher rail voltage. This may help me as well. I'm going to take some measurements tonight.
I could get PSUD2 to simulate the supply - not sure what you have done to cause a problem.
Why have you increased the filter cap sizes from the original?
Are you performance testing by just using your ears, or is there some semblence of measurement being applied?

A larger inductor in a CLC power supply will reduce the ripple voltage but also may reduce your PS output voltage slightly. Your 2.2 mH is usually a good compromise between ripple reduction and voltage loss.
The lower the inductance - the closer filter to "only C type" - the higher the voltage. But it is so only for LC-filter (which starts from L). For CLC filter - character depends from first C value.
Thank you for the feedback. I ended up replacing the inductors anyway and I’m glad I did. The plastic was starting to melt and the inductors were deforming. I went with a larger gauge (14awg), larger inductance (10mH) and lower resistance (.250ohms) inductor. Upon initial listening, the background noise is audibly less. I can no longer hear anything from my seat when they are on. I wish I would have measured the before and after ripple.
