Hi
I'm doing a boom box project. I've bought speakers and the Lepai 2020A+ but I would like some advice or recomendations for batteries.
According to the amplifier I need DC 12V 2A but when I google this I can't find many battiers. At the moment I have no knowledge about them. I would just like some cheap good value batteries.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Sam

Okay thanks for the advice but I'm a real beginner. Does 4Ah mean 4 amps?
Also how would I connect the battery to my amp?
Thanks again

Okay I've done a bit of research and so I know what Ah means.
How about this:
ULTRAMAX NP9-12, 12V 9AH (as 7Ah & 10Ah) UPS BATTERY 4.8MM WIDE SPADE CONNECTOR | eBay
It says that it is has spade adaptors. What would I need to charge it and what would I need in order to wire it to the amplifier?

Spade connectors can be bought from people like CPC note the size, the most common is 1/4" (6mm @). simply connect the + to the plus on the Amp and - to - or ground, probably marked + and - rather then a ground marking.
this will be a sealed lead acid - most UPS batteries are - charging is a bit more complex than that done by a car battery charger, which should not be used on a SLA battery SLA info
Search Ebay for "SLA battery charger"
If H Gee in Mill road is still running, drop in and see what they have, Not as good as in the 60's when I used to buy components there but still handy.

Thanks Spiny!
I've found this charger which I think would be suitable: 12v Battery Charger 12 Volt Charger for SLA Rechargeable Batteries ALARMS | eBay It looks like it has female spade connectors so I'm assuming it can be plugged straight into the battery?
Regarding connecting the battery to my amp, the amp has one input socket (see picture) so would I need some kind of adaptor?
Thanks
Sam
PS. I haven't been to H Gee for a long time and it always looks closed when I go past but I'll have a better look next time.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Would it be acceptable to hook this amp up to the battery of a car if an inline fuse was installed in the positive wire?
The charger will be fine.
You will need a DC power connector to plug into the amp socket. Then wire that to a pair of spade connectors to attach to the battery, follow the markings on the amp + to centre pin negative to outer.
I would put a diode (1n5401 or similar) in the + lead in case its plugged onto the battery the wrong way round 😱 as the spades will be identical...
There are many DC power connectors, I have @ 6 different ones in my spares box to cope with various broken wall warts for example.
So I suggest you take the amp to Gee's or Maplins and get the correct one along with the spades and diode. CPC is good but you have to buy a bag of 100 spade connectors, slight overkill I think!
As an alternatively find a bust wall wart with the right one on it and cut the lead at the wart end and wire the (diode) and spades there.
It would be fine on a car battery and I really like the inline fuse idea, should have thought of that - would be a good idea with the SLA battery as they can discharge a huge current if shorted.
