Bass frequencies / direction

I'm a super n00b when it comes to speaker bulding and am trying to learn as much as I can.


I would like to build some speakers for my computer/CD setup.


In terms of design, I was thinking along the lines of the methods used by Bose in seperating the bass from the mid/tweet range.

I was looking at using a TL design for the left/right bass speakers and then using satellite speakers on either side of my computer monitor to cover mid/tweet.


I was thinking of using Audax AP210G6 for the bass speakers, and then mid/tweets are whatever goes (although I have a pair of 6.5" Jamo Sonic mid-bass speakers I'd like to use).


In terms of bass...at what point does it become more directional in terms of human hearing and thus at which point would it be best to crossover from bass to mid/tweet?

With the abundance of plate amps for subs these days, you might simplify things by using one with a variable crossover from, say, 40 Hz - 150 Hz to power the sub and crossover to the midbass/mid. Assumes the mid can go down to these frequencies.

Localization of bass varies depending on the crossover, etc., but generally anything below 100 Hz with low distortion is hard to localize - perhaps a bit higher if the crossover slopes are steep (4 th order). Above 150 Hz or so, you may have included directional components.

My experience, anyway.
