Basic (I hope!) advice to set up PA system please!

Hi all. First time poster so please bear with me!!

I'm a bedroom DJ who has been asked to do a few public gigs in small venues.

I probably did a bad thing put I bought a load of gear on Ebay thinking I could just plug it in and away you go! I had not encountered or thought about passive/nonpassive, Ohms, crossovers, bridge mode etc etc so I have got myself in a bit of a muddle!!

I have a Yamaha emc312sc powered mixer with two Peavey pro 12's connected with Speakon cables from the rear of the mixer to the speakers. So far so good.

I wanted to add a sub so I bought a Peavey Pro sub. It was at this point I realised it needed power so I bought a Peaver PV1500 amplifier.

Having read a few articles on how to connect up I have tried but failed to get the sub working. The sub has a built in cross-over apparently if that makes any difference?!

Is anyone able to guide me how to put this all together and what types of cable should go where?! Someone told me to have it in bridge mode. I ran a jack lead from one of the mixer outputs to the amp powering the sub and then another jack from the amp to the sub but nothing doing!! There are settings on the amp to activate bridge mode and crossovers but with the sub apparently having a built in crossover I don't know what configuration it needs to be in.

Apologies if I've not made myself clear, I'm totally new to this!

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide, my first gig is this Saturday!!

Is your sub passive or active? If active ( they have amp inside the enclosure ) no need for another power amp. As you stated there is a xover then it's most likely an active sub.

Then yamaha desk line out ( left/mono) to your sub line input and you are done. No need for the other amplifier.

If your sub is passive then yamaha desk line out ( left/mono) to Peavey amp, Peavey amp to sub (Speakon very probably).

Well the sub doesn’t have a power lead so I’m assuming it’s passive?! All it has are two 1/4 connectors on the back but they’re not labelled. The guy I bought the sub from said there was a built in crossover circuit inside.

Does that information help anyone tell me which cables to put and where?!

Well yes it's passive. There should be 2x speakon and 2x 6,35 jack on 5he back, vertically separated with left side labeled 'input' and rigjt side labelled 'hp' .
Don't you have user manuals? If not you should look for them, with internet it's easy.
Take a look at them, the Yamaha one is well explained and clearly understable.

So i repeat Yamaha desk line out ( labeled main out on front) left/mono to the amplifier ( peavey) line input (if stereo use the left chanel) then from the amp to the sub ( speakon left chanel to sub input).

Once it works, we could see other possible use ( bridged amp).

This is easy... Pretty much like the post above you can use a mono jack lead taken from either the Left (mono) main output socket (mono lead as the outputs are all unbalanced) ... OR... if you want more independent control of the sub you can take the feed from the single mono monitor output (which gives you a separate sub volume control on the emc312c) unless your already using that for a monitor?
The other end of that lead connects to the combo input jack on the PV1500... probably Left channel best.... Put the PV into bridge mode... Then take a speakon from the single bridge output jack on the back of the PV to the sub.... 👍
