1980 production! The LOST series DARMA scientist style of soldering! Still they show surface also, not only through hole. There are theme related modern clips appearing in a row on the right of each video when viewing, showing even pasted stencil SMT and reflow oven, but mostly are personal technique clips without overview script or explanation of what they use and why in any educating depth.

This thread is quite old, but somehow I stumbled across it and later watched the videos. Really amazing, and this teaches me also to look for something old, if I look for a new insight into something, not just the brand new things! And most of the knowledge is a few centuries old, so there is a lot of material to study, not only the new one!

The video on soldering through-hole components shows cleaning the leads and pads with a thing that looks like a pencil eraser. I do not find any modern-day references to this. Is this still done? I think it makes sense to make sure that the leads and pads are very clean, but perhaps this is overkill?

Lol, we just used to use pencil erasers. Mom was so pissed when she looked for one and all the erasers were gone from all the new pencils! We used them before all the boards came pre-tinned.
