audioromy fu29 - not working, repair or scrap?

Trying to decide whether to try and get this fixed or just sell it for parts etc. It's a fairly decent tube amp (gets good reviews) bought for ~£250 on ebay, which suddenly stopped working.

Power tubes glow but preamp tubes are (all) cold / don't glow. I've tried changing the tubes but still not working - so presumably not just a faulty valve.

I've not got much electrical knowledge but couldn't see any obvious burnt parts when I opened it up. Not brave enough to start digging around too much for obvious reasons.

I guess my options are

1) see if the seller will accept it to repair - I think it's just over the 1 year warranty, & sending it back to Hong Kong will be expensive & take ages

2) find someone to repair it. Anyone know of someone in London?

3) sell as not working - not sure how much I'd get for it, probably not much.

Any suggestions?? Would be interested to hear what other people would do..

It's almost definitely repairable, even to the degree that if the transformer is faulty you could repair or replace (identical or a second transformer). Most electricians / electronics gurus should easilly be able to tell you where the heater supply has disappeared to.

Thanks for all the replies. Good to know it should be repairable.

JonSnell - thanks for offering to repair it. I see you're in Weymouth so I'd need to send it to you. Just trying to work out if it's economical to do it. Any idea how much postage would usually cost for this kind of item? And any rough idea about what it might cost to repair? Obviously it'll depend what you find but maybe you have an idea just from the description?

Many thanks
Ben

Hi, dependent upon the weight but if you look up Interparcel or collectPlus on line, up to 12kG is surprisingly cheap, Royal Mail is far too expensive, CityLink are good for next day etc.
As you are a diy member, I will look at it free of charge and let you know the repair cost when I have examined it.
Feel free to send me a message on my web site. jonsnell.co.uk
Regards,
Jon

Thanks for all the tips. It's about 20kg so would probably go with parcel2go as I couldn't see an option for that weight on collect plus. Think I'd go with Jon Snell as he offered first. I'll try and figure out a day when I'm at home for the courier and then get in touch.
