Hi all,
I was wondering if someone had insight into the differences between the following AP devices:
I am looking to measure primarily audio filters and preamps, as well as (now and then) power amps, ADCs, and DACs.
Is it possible to use a System One without DSP board to acquire signals and then later measure them with FFT using separate software?
Do Portable One, ATS-1 and ATS-2 have FFT options built in without a special DSP expander board?
Does System One have any sort of live oscilloscope view?
How long does acquisition take on a System One to get a distortion measurement vs the other devices? Similarly, how long does Bode plot acquisition take with them? Or more importantly - are there noticeable differences in time?
Thanks a lot

In general, any thoughts on the differences between those devices are very welcome. How they are in use, what their comparative capabilities are as well as precision, any maintenance hurdles and unobtainum components known to be at the end of the road, etc. Thanks everyone.
Hi cheater
All 4 of the instruments do have options
No, the S1 (ApWin software) have a live oscilloscope view. It is part of the APX family.

- System One (without DSP) is an Analog only model 22A
- Portable One is a manual operated and may have GPIB computer controlled options.
- ATS-1 is like a Portable One in a metal box
- ATS-2 is like a System One 222

@Audio1Man thank you!
What are the chances of taking a System One 22A and upgrading it to DSP? Are the boards in general available?
If you don't mind getting into it - what is the difficulty of acquiring raw signal from a System One?
Thanks for the pointer on the group. I'd have to set up a LinkedIn, but I'll do it as soon as I have some time. Had no idea it's being used as a social network of some sort.
Is System One 22A a good buy in your opinion, or are they obviated by other testing equipment, or possibly a recent good quality audio interface with a PC based test suite?
Appreciated

No, you need to buy a 222(A) or 322(A)What are the chances of taking a System One 22A and upgrading it to DSP? Are the boards in general available?
Take the Channel Monitor output (1volt & 500kHz BW) and connect to a DSOIf you don't mind getting into it - what is the difficulty of acquiring raw signal from a System One?

It is a very good tool, however this model is ANALOG ONLY.Is System One 22A a good buy in your opinion, or are they obviated by other testing equipment, or possibly a recent good quality audio interface with a PC based test suite?

Take the Channel Monitor output (1volt & 500kHz BW) and connect to a DSO
Thanks - that would result in a much lower dynamic range, wouldn't it? The dynamic range is one of the selling points for me.
I use an S1 connected to a Picoscope and get pretty comprehensive analysis capabilities. The DSo increases the effective dynamic range of the DSO analysis. And a usb scopes makes everything easier to see and document.
Sorry, what do you mean? The DSo increases the effective dynamic range of the DSO analysis
Sorry, fighting with phone auto-incorrect.
That the AP S1 increases the effective dynamic range of a DSO by analog pre-processing with a notch or or other filtering. Or a soundcard plus software eg. REW. to display harmonic content.

There's someone selling ATS-2 and they specifically note that it has firmware 1.5 and not 1.6. What is the difference between these two? Thanks
The ATS-2 needs software running on a PC to operate. I sell an APIB USB ADAPTER that will control ATS-2 operating with V1.5 software, AP USB BOX needs V1.6 or higher to control ATS-2. The APIB USB ADAPTER also controls System One & System Two's & other AP running on ApWin 2.24

Thanks, what are the functional differences between 1.5 and 1.6 firmwares? Are AP devices that run 1.6 capable of being downgraded to 1.5?
The ATS-2 does not need FIRMWARE UPDATES. The ATS Software has been updated and V1.5 and lower needs a card in the PC to talk to the ATS-2. Ver 1.6 now supports USB, and needs AP USB BOX.
