...diamonds are a girl's best friend... seriously.

Buy a hex head screw... maybe an 8 mm thread, 50 mm long... not hardened.

Put this in a drill press and file or grind the points away and also make the head flat.

Then use diamond paste/slurry to cut down the center post.

Never done it but have done similar things.

EVA...

I realise you can't actually 'buy' them but it should be possible to buy the gapped cores separately. Measurements are made in combination with a non-gapped core half.

3960um plus a 2060um pair gets you 6020um. 🙂

Of course that assumes you have a supplier.

Fast and simple way to make accurate customised gap does exist. Just ask your stomatologist, he(she) must have some kind of a diamond disk saw (looks like a tablet 8-10mm diameter with shaft 1.5mm diameter) for tooth/ceramic cutting. It's fully compatible with hand drill (if can take 1.5mm), i have done >10 gaps for RM7-RM10, and have feeling that this stuff ready to gap for ten cores else.. BTW, this is cheap, i'm sure, my stomatologist gave me it like a present.

Bruno was saying before he ground his own 1mm air gaps with the use of a dremel mounted in a drill stand, and taking his time with it. Maybe two cuts to his one will get you your 6mm. Careful with those cutting wheels though, they blow right apart easily enough.

Hi,

Have done that many times with a Dremel in a Dremel stand and a standard Dremel diamond cutting disk. Those cutting disks are made of a small stainless steel disk with diamond powder glued on the outer edge.

Have done that many times for EE-cores, EC-cores and even P-cores. Adjust the height of the disk above the base plate and carefully shift the core halve through the diamond disk by hand. This works pretty well. Use some water for cooling and to avoid having ferrite dust everywhere around. Anyway it is recommended to use a dust mask and safety glasses for your protection.

Cheers 😉
