Am I blind? (shunt reg's for preamp)

Hi,

everybody seems to think, 'shunt regulators sound best'.

OTOH, browsing trough the forum does not show a single ready-to-build shunt reg, but dozens of integrated, Emitter- or Sourcefollower or Series regulators.

I am aware that shunts source a lot of current and produce a lot of heat on the downside.

I bookmarked a shunt reg from M.Huber which I always planned to adapt for a borbely/pass/curl style preamp, but unfortunately the page has gone :bawling:

I remember it consists of a current source, followed by a differential pair as a reference/VAS controlling a shunt transistor. It uses some feedback too.

So, if anyone build something like that, and does not mind to share his findings, please do so!

Reading the manual -- I would suggest that R18 and R19 be specified as 1 Watt metal film.

Hi guys, really interesting link.
In the manual the suggested op amp is the opa655P and the author say that is not possible to substitute it with others op amp.
But that op amp is discontinued, replaced by the opa656.

Now, TI says that the 656 is "an EXACT EQUIVALENT in functionality and parametrics to the compared device (655)" so can I use it in place of the 655 without modifications?
