The Part Gatherer
Hello,
I have started gathering up parts for the Ono and it looks like the transistor 2SC1844 looks like a problem to get hold of. I managed to track down the 2SA991. Does anyone have any links to where I can track down the 2SC1844 or does anyone have any hanging around at home?
Looking forward to some assistance chaps.

It seems that 2SC1844 has been discontinued a long time ago and is hard to get. However, there are quite a number of other low noise transistors that are good replacements, such as 2SC2240 and the even better 2SC2257, the latter may also become extinct soon. I do not think that they would be any worse than the original in the Ono circuit.
Hi Martin,
Thanks for your reply. So would this be okay as a complement to 2SA991? Where can I track down this substitute?

Hi Brownlow,
If you have the 2SA991 already you can still use it, especially since it is not part of a complementary pair.
Generally for the substitutes: You can find all datasheets on the internet and they usually tell you the complementary part. From the datasheet of the 2SC2545, 2SC2546, 2SC2547 (same transistor with different voltage ratings): "Complementary pair with 2SA1083, 2SA1084 and 2SA1085".
