My question is if i can remove the tone control op amp in this pre amplifier and still run the volume control. It has two op amps, one for volume and one for tone control. Is this already done or tested? all input is welcome... ;-)
If I'm not mistaken, these tube pre-amps are all very similar to the original FX Audio, which still works after removing both op-amps.
A few users even found that the sound's better without them in the chain 🙂

Thanks, yesterday i removed the tone control op amp and it works, can confirm it sounds more detailed without. Great little pre amp family 😊
I use it without any op-amps and use the volume control on my amplifier. I just sold my Burson V6 Classic on eBay. You should listen to it without op-amps. I also upped the input and output coupling capacitors to 4.7uF increases the base extension if you're connecting it up to a solid-state amp. I'm borrowing a variable power supply to see how it (tubes) sounds and measure with higher voltages. I'm making sure I keep the heater voltages to 6.2v...
If i use it without op amps i need to use the volume control on my notebook. i run a dongle dac > tube pre amp > Aiyima 07 class D and line out of the 07 to a subwoofer filter and second Aiyima 07. I can not control the line out from Aiyima 07. So i use the volume from the pre amp. I will give it a try but it sounds already great..
I'd change the op-amps from the ones that came in it. I tried Muses02 (I still have these) and Burson V6 Classic and they were easily better than the ones it comes with. I liked the Burson V6 Classic but it was more expensive and is too tall fore the case. Muses02 is good but it didn't have that softer edge on treble that the Burson had. If you listen Keith Don't Go on Nils Lofgren Acoustic Live the V6 would just smooth out some of higher frequency plucking on his guitar from being harsh...I like to use this track as a test for harshness and detail...
