Accidentally connect wrong power polarity

I accidentally connect wrong power polarity on my Soundstream DTA-1 automotive D/A converter. I connected +12V to its ground terminal and connected ground to its +12V terminal. After that it could be turned on, the LED indicator lighted up, but there’s no sound. Moreover, there’s no smoke, spark or any sign of short circuit, only no sound coming out from audio output channels. Please help what should be inspected.

Quite possible you fried the chips.
Our builders here put a diode (3 to 5 Amps) in series on the board just with this possibility in mind.

Your choice, repair or replace.
Seems an old unit with Burr-Brown chips, worth it maybe for the low effort and relative ease of working on it.
Finding parts and working on it will be tedious.

And do put a diode on this or other units...or use a polarised connector like those in cars, to prevent such events.

There is a good chance that you only damaged the power supply section. In fact, I'm surprised you damaged anything at all, car electronics are usually protected against incorrect polarity, doubled voltage during jump starting from a 24 V truck battery and nasty voltage spikes in all directions.
