845 SET OPT advice

I wish to purchase good quality output transformers for single ended amp using 845.

I can spend up to $500 each.

I am not averse to a wind-it-yourself-kit, but not aware that there are any for SET OPT's, although an SET OPT is much more doable than a PP.

I am planning on high voltages: 800 to 1.2 KV B+ at 100 mA, although I may have to moderate on that, I understand 😱

I will be running the 845's into grid conduction using George's Power Drive circuit at his TubeLab site, to get much more power out of the 845's.

Finally, I MIGHT run two 845's in parallel for double the power....so an OPT winder who is capable of a custom job (yeah, more money) would be great to be able to talk to.

All advice really welcome.

Very Best Regards, Synchro27

There are many choices...

James JS-6159HF $690/pair
Hashimoto H-30-5S $1000/pair
Tango X-10SF $1400/pair
Tamura F-2013 $1000/pair
Lundhal LL1691 $380 each
Electra-Print $400 each
Audio Notes TRANS-310/IE $650/each
Sowter SE09 $300 each

I havent heard any of them and I don't know if there is someone that was able to compare them all.

I would personally go for Electra-Print custom made transformers. It will parbably be the best value.

Thank you so much. I will look up the Electra-Prints for sure - but I'll look at 'em all. I didn't know where to start, so this is wonderful.

I've been studying the instructions on Patrick Turner's website for the dual-845 SET OPT he custom wound....I might attempt it, but I don't know about sourcing all the parts - and I am thinking that in the end I might not end up saving that much money...and I might not end up with OPT's nearly as good as I want.

thanks again; now I know what to go look up.

does anyone have a source for GOSS C-cores?

I have decided...well, maybe...to wind my own OPT's. But I do not want to use the Met-Glas Amorphous cores, no matter how much they are touted.

I just want to use plain old Grain Oriented Silicone Steel C-cores, but with a lamination thickness of .05 mm (.002") or less.

There are GOSS cores on the web, but the lams are .014" thick, too thick by far (because they're intended for 60 Hz).

I can get GOSS "tape" lamination material in .05 mm, but coiling it and forming it and heat treating it....is a challenge, to say the least.
