You're approaching this from the wrong side, you don't need 400W you need different speakers.
What are you trying to do anyway?
sorry, but I find it a bit brash of you talking like this. If you think that there is no need on this planet for "high power" amplifiers, or that you should be the one deciding how everyone uses audio equipment, I am sorry, you are wrong. Just because I do not know much about power supplies in amplifiers does not mean I am one of those thinking more watts is the solution to all problems.
yeah ok, so what speakers are you trying to drive and how many people are you trying to entertain, and how far away will they be from the speakers?
I know the driver well because I've used it before, an older beyma 18", specifically 18G400. In an earlier version, it was run by a precision power class AB amplifier that was measured @ 750W@4R@13.5V supply voltage. It was an amp that could deliver what I wanted and we tested other ones. Sometimes it has to be loud'er'. Not always. But I am not designing a system that can't reliably be driven to higher SPLs.
And the specific design of the enclosure is not something I have to discuss here. I may ask questions that seem stupid to many of you, but I also might know a thing or two. I am here to learn and if I come across as unexperienced and uneducated, that's because I am in many areas.
I do not understand a lot about the processes in amplifiers and SMPS. It is just a mystery to me. So thanks for the help this far, I really am very thankful.

so a single 18" in a car? And your audience is you and the people 200m down the street as you announce your arrival with a doof doof doof?
