Hey folks, I am looking for an existing DIY project that can make use of 8x Excel W12CY001 drivers I have in the basement. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Saw your older thread about these. What if you built 4 of your earlier idea MTM or TMM cabinets and experimented with placement? Back to back, vertical stack, multiple room locations…
Or expand to MMTMM or TMMMM cabinets.
Another wild idea would be a super fancy MEH with four excel mids per big horn.

I was hoping to find a similar project that uses these drivers, I can't say I am any good at speaker design. I'd like them to be narrow and tall, MTM+MM if possible at all.
Hobby HiFi and Klang&Ton DIY magazines might have had a project with these. Ask around there.
MWMW+M+T might work out, although magnesium cone break-up needs crossover attention.

Well, designing some narrow and tall MTMMM or MMTMM speaker requires prototyping and measuring the acoustic response so that you’ll get the crossover right. Baffle step can be a nuisance in such designs. Getting the MTM right possibly more so.
I agree with the message above, even if it can be tricky, I would build a 2.5 way like the Elsinore (MTMWW).
I am attracted to HATT SE, mainly because I also have plenty of xo components I could recycle into it. But it can also serve as starting point for something bigger.
Normally one acquires VCad files by measuring a prototype. Given that you have already spent a lot of cash on those drivers, you'll have to bite the bullet and get yourself a measurement jig.
Here they are (traced curves from the Seas datasheet).Does anyone know where I can find virtuixcad files for Seas H1499 tweeter?

I paid zero for them, they were salvaged from old tandberg telepresence unit🙂Normally one acquires VCad files by measuring a prototype. Given that you have already spent a lot of cash on those drivers, you'll have to bite the bullet and get yourself a measurement jig.
If I were in possession of 8 W12CY001 I would sell 4 and build a pair of MTM with a nice tweeter maybe XT25BG60 or B&G Neo 3 (not GRS or copies) or a nice 4" waveguided tweeter (examples?). I don't like the Seas DXT too much, it's okay but not great a bit tiering.
