I am almost ready to power up my amp but after reading some threads
I decided to ditch the Sovtek 5u4g , I have a sylvania 5u4gb I would like to use , any concerns ? from what I gather the 5u4gb is just beefier. ALso what is pin one for on these tubes

I'm using the Sovtek 5U4G for my monoblocks and they work well. The "B" basically gives you the potential for 50 more mA (275 vs. 225 IIRC). DC voltage is 450 in both.
Only pins 2,4,6 and 8 are connected.
The extra pin adds stability in the socket mechanically. Since there is a high AC coltage on pins 4 and 6, they leave out the pins on either side of them to reduce possibilities of arcing. Pin 1 is between 2 and 8 which are only 5v apart and thus not going to arc.
I've never heard of a difference in current capacity, AFAIK -G is just the ST bottle and -GB is straight sided, like 6L6(GB/GC).
