I was planning on using this knob
Medium Plastic Receiver / Amp Knob 0.61" - Silver
With this potentiometer
25K Audio Taper Potentiometer 1/4" Shaft
But I wasn't sure if there's a fit difference since the pot is 1/4in while the knob is 6mm...I assume it would work but wanted to double check before I screw it up haha

Hard to drill out concentric, and no way to grip the shaft.
Collet knobs * are your best bet for plain shafts.

I didn't look to see what kind of knob it was, obviously a round shaft and "D" hole won't work. Knobs with 6mm holes usually don't work with 1/4" shafts.

You need a knob with a set screw, something like this:
