Mcmurdo genuine original NOS octals

I'm fortunate enough to have a stash of NOS Amphenol in military wrapping with the wrap-around pins. But I'm sure you'll find buyers for your sockets. Good NOS octals are so much better than most modern sockets!

Just a friendly suggestion: you might add a picture (and your real location) to help your sale. Many people may not realize how nice your sockets are without getting a look at them.

Best of luck!
Tom

Sure.
Totally agree.
I just had a greek guy wasting my time about this, arguing about prices and all, when I know how much people in the trade want.

The black mil spec Amphenols are better than the consumer grade ones, and very often old stock start to look pretty scruffy in fact.
These are just like they came out the factory, so can really stand 700-800V+ with no arcing, which is what the KT88 can do, but sometimes I can't organise photographing everything.

I bought a job lot, because I needed to replace some sockets in big amps that are running 650V HT all the time. When the transformer is fully loaded, the voltages can easily exceed 1200v.

Some of the old sockets are getting so rough, they are actually losing anode contact, and in another similar amp something near caught fire underneath and fried the wiring.

In the case you have such high voltages, and age has made things tired and unreliable, I wouldn't even think of fitting a repro part.

I have a similar situation with new NOS LOKTALS, even the NOS Russian ones are nothing like as good as the UK made mil spec ones.
The chinese ones are awful.

I always like new members that post stuff for sale
making broad claims, no pics, no real location etc.

Oh, just going to send them down to us from the
emergency chute.

Oh and a guy was arguing about prices on this stuff
that you bought for pennies and you want how much
for an octal that we can't see?
Don't know the specs of?
No data sheet?
No pics?
No price other then your setting us up for expensive?

How much do people in trade want for these?

well, it's pretty simple, if you don't like it,- don't buy and don't comment.
I don't need your "new member" nonsense and I don't need your comments.

I don't buy stuff for "pennies".
I bought a job lot of other stuff I was interested in, (250+ unobtanium valves).
These were offered to me on top.

Being as I have more than half a dozen amps which need good replacements, I don't need such a large stock thanks.

In any case I'm not selling any to you, and I'm not really so interested in sending them to the USA either after getting your earful FOC.

happy now?
well done for making a nice atmosphere.

Easy now :D
Although I DO understand various people´s hesitation to a new member,
just a nickname, an "in your dreams" location, trying to sell stuff without pricing and photos attaced. That said, I have no doubt, that your stuff is real.
Good luck with your sales.
PS... If really interrested in selling, you might boost your chances by doing, what others are saying: Show some pic´s and reveal your real location. I for one would like to know, if I´m up against import taxes etc. :)

EUROPE.
I don't have any photos of the OCTALS right now, but there's quite a few.
Some of the newer phenol ones were not so good.

I have compared the Chinese, Russian ceramic and 60s Mcmurdo stuff.
I don't buy primarily to sell,- only offload what I end up having way too many of, after doing my own work.
I take arcing and insulation of high voltages quite seriously.

I DO prefer to have NOS in original packing, but often I get offered a pile of loose unwrapped stuff, with valve bases loose, corrosion on loctals, faulty connections and all sorts.
This wastes vast amounts of time sorting as well as corresponding with people that palm me off with New old RUBBISH.

I did notice a thread here
Here are the Loctals which I am now low on so, won't offer any more for sale.

I only buy quantities like this, because I need some for work.
It's pointless not clearing out the entire stock while I am there, as it's not my mail line of work.

Europe is not a problem for sending anything anywhere.
After Brexit it won't be so simple any more, unless you happen to live in Ireland. :Pirate:

here is a photo of a rebuilt amp with exactly that combo.

A LOCTAL Gas voltage regulator, replacing the original OCTAL 5R4G rectifier socket, to supply regulated AF amp supply and the 5R4G rectifier moved over into a NOS Octal socket where the original 5Y3 was, to supply screen grid supply with less HT sag and a slow warm up to bring the output valves up gently.

A valve rectifier may quite easily have 1800V AC across it, and 750V AC to ground from the HT transfo secondary, and have in excess of 900V DC on heater 2 pins... (one of my amps is 900-0-900 and has 835V on TC anodes).

To me that is close to the design limit of what they were made for, and that's just the sockets.

I found BOTH HT transformers in that amp were dead with shorts to ground in the main 5V heater secondaries, and one smoothing choke was the same.
(I wondered why a fuse blew each time, or the 5Y3 red plated and died when I turned it on..)

I do perfectly understand, a desire to do a job properly often offends.
