This is my first post on here and would be grateful if someone can help me.
Just bought a Marantz cd75 from ebay and having issue from day 1.
1. When I first powered it up on Saturday, the LED display showed all 888888's and the tray wouldn't open and none of the button would function. Powered off and on tna. Opened up the case and there was a Cd inside, removed it manually and fiddly with it a bit, the cd player came on and the 888888 disappeared and it started to play cd's. I thought the fault was fixed.
2.On Sunday, Whilst playing CD for about 30 minutes, noticed that display had gone blank, the button would not function, but the cd kept on playing. Had to manually pull the power cable and start again. Now I was thinking there thinking there a real problem. Played a couple of CD's and both played through without any issues.
3. Then today (Monday)whilst playing a cd, point number 1. stared all over again. Again I had to manually pull the power cable, opening the casing and removing the Cd and doing it few times, the display was ok and started to play a cd again.
4. There is definetley an intermittent fault and worry when it will happen again as it is very frustrating.
I hope this makes sense and it someone can point me in the right direction in how I can fix this, otherwise I will need to return it back and get a refund from the seller, who said it was fully working.

This looks like an intermittend contact inside affecting most probably the control processor.
The CD75 is a player mainly based on Philips boards. Such boards are known to have such faults after about 40 years now. Known areas of issues are open solder joints and dried out electrolytic capacitors leading to quite diverse types of faults.
The recent transport to your home may just have triggered e.g. a broken solder connection.
Fortunately such failures can be repaired but require failure analysis and soldering on component level. Also required are at least some basic measurement equipment like DVM.

Aboos is correct about the known faults with this Philips based player.

Evening guys, does anyone know where I get a service manual for a Marantz CD75 CD player? Will to pay a few pounds, if anyone has a spare copy. Thanks ps just stared to play a cd and after about 25 minutes, the display started to flicker and none of the button function, but the CD keeps on playing. After about 1 hour of playing like this, the display has gone completely blank. I will have to power it down and open the case to get the cd out. Wonders if is heat related, where a component is failing after warming up.

Apparently the Marantz CD75 and Marantz CD65 use the same circuit board. there are a few different versions of the 65 and manuals.
Service manuals for the CD65's are easily found on the net, find the one that best fits what you have (version).

Would help to post a pic of the internals to make sure, as the Mk2 of the 75 and 65 are different PCB's to the non Mk2's.

Thanks for the info, didn't realize that the 65 and 75 uses the same circuit board.

Here are some pictures. I have noticed the big black capacitor slightly bulging, would that cause the issues I am having?
Can someone please point to the 'Control Processor' on the picture as mentioned by forum member that it could be faulty. many thanks.

I don't see a bulge, at least not from the angle at which the photo is taken.
The solution to your problem is unlikely to be as simple as just replacing that capacitor.
Buying a second hand CD player is a risky business. Did you contact the seller?

This player has been modified already! All the electrolytic capacitors have been replaced - in some cases with a much larger type which is in many cases a not so good idea. The PC board is a standard Philips board and the original capacitors are normally much smaller in size.
It's likely to be one of the larger black integrated circuits you can see in the photo, but I don't think knowing its location will help you much.
aboos suggested that there might be an intermittent contact which could be affecting the control processor - the source of the problem could be almost anywhere.
Intermittent faults are hard to pin down without access to test equipment.
As I type, aboos has posted that the player has been modified. Did the seller appraise you of that fact? If not, you have a good reason for contacting him.

Yes I did contact the seller and he refunded me fully and told me to keep the player as he didn't want it back.
So no I have this player and want to try to fix it, (hoping it would be a fix like replacing a capacitor, otherwise it will be binned.
I also thought of buying another CD75 and see if I can make one good one out of two or would that be a no, no!

My advice would be to put the faulty player back at auction, at a very low starting price, descibed as being 'for spares or repair only'.
As I think you realise, without the necessary test equipment and technical skills, making 'one good one out of two' would definitely be a no, no!

I will try to sell it on ebay.
I only bought this one as I really wanted to hear a CD with a TDA1541A DAC.
I'm still looking for a Marantz CD75, 65II or CD273 or whether to go for something newer like a Marantz CD63 SE KI as I do not want to go through the similar issue I had with CD75.
Now its about trying to find a genuine seller with a working unit at reasonable price.

That looks like the basic Philips CD150 to me. The displays were a known problem and are essentially unobtainable today.
