I have more than 17 V DC after the rectifier, but I think to take a chance with LT1084
Why not LT1085, 3A is more than enough if you need about 900mA.

That is a knock-off of Pete Millet's design!
Seams to do the job...but they put 10000 uF on the schematics and 4700 in the kitI chose this one for a tube preamp I'm building. For less than $12, it's got goodies like Schottky diodes with film caps across, and it works, bolted to my aluminum chassis. No relation to the seller.
