I haven't tried these yet. They are not very common. I saw them some where else.

How dow they sound compared to MKP caps?

BTW, Thomas do you remember my emails about the filter chips?

Default Ultimate Twin TDA1541a Non-oversampling DAC with tube buffer & reclock set...........

Hi quantran,

I did not remember that your questions is reply or not because too many questions. If U did not collect the reply, would U care email to me once again?

The sound was strong contrast in high freq area.

Nos dac will alittle bit of soft in HF area. But this MKL had a very fast sound. The HF heard more strong detail. but the LF was a little weak.

may be more time for run in will better. This is the first image that I supply for diyer to reference.

thx

Default How many regulators?

Are there separate regulators for the cs8412 and tda1541A's?

Assuming separate regs for DIR and DAC, is the digital power and analog power of the CS8412 served by separate or the same regulator(s)? If so, would this be the LT1033/1057 reg parts throughout for DIR and DAC?

Thanks,
Mike

Hi quantran,

Does you dac use passive I/V conversion with the tube buffer board as a pure tube outputsage Thomas' kit seems very flexible in terms of mods. Maybe even the use of plate-chokes for the 6922's could improve performance. Thanks.

Hi fred76

Yes, I use passive I/V 2x68R in parallel for each channel. I guess most (if not all) tube DACs use passive I/V.

I have not used plate chokes for my DAC yet. I think it may give more benefits to the 6c45pi option.

I use a pair of Dario Miniwatt ECC189 now in place of the 6dj8. Most people say these are not good for audio due to variable Mu. However in this case they sound better than a pair of Sylvania 6922.

I removed the cathod cap for 6922/6dj8 tubes. In think it sound better this way. All electrolytic caps are disasters. The HF filter caps (C23, C24, C42, C48) are also extremely important to the sound. I recommend you to upgrade these caps with the best one you can buy. They are just 1nF so not expensive.

Hi quantran,

Thank you for the info. Since the tube is high gm and highish in mu, removing the cathode caps is not a big issue I guess (changes in R values?). I don't have a manual or have ordered the kit yet since I'm waiting for Diyhifisupply's version (Thomas' kit as base) to come out and see what suits me best. Do you know where I can download the manual of Thomas' kit if it is posted online? Thanks again.

To be honest I don't know much about tubes. Why don't you send an email to Thomas. I think he will send you the schematic.
