This was taken with a crappy camera and was intended to show a pair of Oddblock Monoblocks I built. In the background you can see one of the Proac 2.5 clones. The front is a very dense, dark red, expensive wood I forgot the name of at the moment. The front baffle is 1.5" thick, the rest is 3/4" MDF covered in Cherry veneer. It is heavily braced and ported in the rear. The XO was built with Mills resistors and a combination of Solen and Obbligato film and foil caps as well as all Jantzen air core inductors. I did use the original XO design, not the modified Chinese one. I preferred the original as it seemed a little more bright and forward than the other.
One thing that really impresses everyone who hears these is the bass reproduction and SPLs these 7" 2 ways can produce. This was one of the very first DIY speakers I built and wince I have done many other designs. These are still my favorite. Maybe I am just sentimental but I think it is just a very well designed speaker that is hard to beat, especially for the price. I think I spent as much on the XOs as I did the 2 midwoofers. They weren't inexpensive, maybe around $1000 total to build properly, but could be done well for less. I can take some better pics if you are interested. Jeff P.S. The small speaker to the left of it is the original Recession Buster from Madisound. Last edited by jmillerdoc; 17th September 2010 at 11:34 PM. Reason: Forgot to mention the RB speaker |
