I am using an Imation CDRW unit and connecting the digital output direct to an Audio Alchemy DAC.

The sound is excellent!

I have actually tried the following cdrom drives (52X speed):
1. LG (spin at high speed, very noisy mechanism although audio is good, rejected),
2. Goldstar (very silent operation, very good audio but read outer tracks with 'some' noises. Also cannot repeat last audio track. Rejected)
3. A generic 52X cdrom, skipping and bad audio output. Rejected.

Hi, robertc,

Can't say I have but having tested the LG, I would make an assumption that it would be the 'same'.. ie spins at high speed but audio out (digital) is good, unless I can 'borrow' one for testing..

A friend recommends an AOPEN (CDROM) instead.. Currently the Imation CDRW unit that I am using was NOT used due to 'write errors' after 1 year of usage. I have not check the price of the AOPEN but I guess it would be similar to the Samsung, probably in the region of RM40-RM50.. Will check it out this weekend.

Compared to the Sony DVP-7000 that I am using as my main transport, the sound is almost 'identical' except that the Sony is a little 'warmer' in characteristics and more body to the low/mid bass.. For serious late night listening I would use the Sony and for normal day to day use, the Imation is simply excellent.

Did you get pics of the LCD ones? I saw a blue character LCD when I was browsing some displays and kind of liked it haha.... I imagine mine has shipped already? Was kind of curious what the LCD one looked like though.

Maybe italian mail service is s**t... I'll re-check mail this evening.

I'm currently testing a cd-rom with a 15 years old 100W AT SMPS, from a 80486 PC, with brand new caps... it works good! ....and I'm searching for a good low-cost DAC...
Hi
Sorry to make you wait so long.Don't worry~I will checking~

Huang
