I would love to put together The One for my listening pleasure, but such a level of financial commitment for audio toys isn't currently in the cards...

In a next few days I will receive DPS-500/S on test trial, from very kind mister Roberto - AP2.

Will report back with some measurements and of course listening tests.

i trust you to make the right choice , only the people who want the fulll kit will buy the smps from you , the others can make their own choices.

no need to sacrifice quality by choosing a cheaper smps , if you feel the hypex is the one i will gladly pay the amount.

I believe L.C. is over all interested by quality and smart enough to have a clever analyze of the quality price ratio.
I will trust, as you, his tests and conclusions.
I'm personaly interested to figure out what will behave the best: regulated or unregulated. More than this, i hope that L.C. will be in position to get SMPS tuned at their best for his amps, no need to change big litycs by better ones, with the charge of thrown ones, having the best sounding caps mounted by the manufacturer from the origin.

Quality first, price second. The box will probably be the most expensive part doing the least for SQ. Wrap it in al foil and it will sing as a bird anyway!

Some actual news about GB

Does the transformer come with the kit ?

Hi guys

Full kit includes two First One amplifier modules, two SMPS-s and one metal chassis with two predrilled and threaded heatsinks.

Classical toroid or EI or C transformers with capacitors bank is not recommended by me, at least not any more.

There will be three SMPS tested and recommended, each with its significant features which will be fairly revealed and presented in this thread.

SMPS power supplies undergoing tests:

- SMPS1200A400, unregulated, tested
- DPS-500/S, regulated, test in the process
- SMPS2000R, regulated, test in the process

Most interesting and revealing will be the listening experience of each SMPS since their voltage regulation feedback is practically situated in the audio path. In reality we could certainly not claimed anything about SMPS-s in absolute terms here, but relative comparison among all three will be in focus and quite fair.

I wish and also hope the regulated ones will win since that will bring some extra headroom, higher peak power, lower ripple and therefore better PSRR figures. But that is just a wish, in any case my opinion will definitely be in accordance to sound quality results.

Current situation about GB realization is that PCB-s are in the production and they will meet some very rigorous quality criterias, since I want them to be near perfection and they will be.

Next stage is SMD assembly which will follow soon after, probably in a week or so, but surely all of them will be assembled before final through hole parts will arrive in the production company.

The longest lead and delivery times are associated to Mundorf and Semelab parts, which were both ordered in the begining of January.

My part of the job at the moment is to prepare independent measuring station for quick calibration and various functional tests, including power loading at 20 kHz.

That's just about all for now.
