Eddie Current, LLC, a boutique audio design company, announces that it has developed the Contact Pressure Adjustable Tube Socket, a UX-4 base tube socket with improved mechanical and electrical connection for vacuum tubes. The new technology minimizes damage to vacuum tubes and provides the audio industry a better tube socket option.

Made in the USA, the Contact Pressure Adjustable Tube Socket is a CNC-machined virgin Teflon pressure block base with adjustable side clamps. The connector pin is machined from beryllium copper, a high conductivity metal with excellent spring elasticity. The pins are silver plated for best electrical contact in audio applications.

The adjustable socket base allows for easy insertion, removal and replacement of tubes without compromising pin connectivity. Together, the Teflon base and spring action female pins hold the vacuum tube male pins with a 360-degree connection over the full pin length to create better conductivity and mechanical strength.

Craig Uthus, inventor of the socket, explains why he improved the audio component’s traditional design, “Over the years I’ve found that traditional design can cause tube failure and intermittent tube pin-to-socket contact. Traditional pin insertion also creates excessive wear on the vacuum tubes. I designed an adjustable socket that offers both optimal connection for sound transfer over the full pin length to create better conductivity and mechanical strength yet avoids damage to expensive vacuum tubes and audio gear.” The socket will be used in Eddie Current’s award-winning Balancing Act vacuum tube headphone amplifier.

The features of the Contact Pressure Adjustable Tube Socket (patent pending) are:

--Virgin Teflon Base with precision pressure block and adjustable side clamps
--Beryllium copper spring action pins
--360 degree connection over the full pin
--Silver plated pins
--Machined in the USA
