I am building a Buffalo II / IVY III setup and plan to use a BNC connector for SPDIF input to the DAC. Should the body of the BNC connector be isolated from my bare-metal back panel (i.e., from chassis ground potential) with shoulder washers or some similar insulator, or can I just screw the BNC directly onto the bare chassis? I usually use a star grounding scheme and isolate all inputs and outputs from the chassis in my analogue construction projects, but I don't know if digital circuitry has different ground rules (pun intended) for best performance. Please advise.
These are mighty fine looking boards and I can't wait to get this rig running. |

Isolate the body of the BNC connector from the chassis.

Thanks for the advice, ihear21khz. I'll bore a bigger hole in the back panel and use some nylon shoulder washers to mount the BNC connector.

Thank you, avr300; that looks like a good alternative. I know Neutrik makes high quality stuff.
