Hola
Almost all MC LO carts are ideal balanced source. Cheap MM carts have RG and LG connected internally.

This is very bad that GND is actually often connected to signal ground. It should be always separated.

Interesting info: http://www.tubecad.com/2007/09/blog0120.htm

You might find it easier to read Hagerman's paper instead of the Lipshits paper (but it is superb reading!) or read Walt Jung's paper. Let me know if you need copies.

I highly recommend using the Laplace funtion in SPICE to do RIAA accuracy simulations.

I am deep into the wild world of RIAA amplifiers

Regards,
Sigurd

I have always been more into DACs, so this is my first foray into the wild world of Vinyl.

Cheers!

I came back to vinyl records few months ago. I cannot enjoy any digital source since then.
I also changed my amplifications to tubes ones. I doubt if I'll go back to SS.

So, Russ is bitten by the vinyl bug. Will we see tubes in his future?
Mmmmm, the soft orange glow in a dark room filled with vinyl

Russ,
Bravo on your fully symmetrical phono pre. Why 99% of people treat this balanced symmetrical signal source as unbalanced is beyond me.

We do it with tubes and zero NFB, but yours is a good as I've seen with ICs.

But you could add a tweak to the RIAA curve that more accurately mirrors what goes down on the disc:

See #4, "Add the missing time constant".

I am sure I will enjoy it. If for no other reason than I have access to a lot of Vinyl to listen to.

No doubt you'll enjoy it. The question is whether you'll become converted.
