Hi Tony,
High praise coming from you guys. Your amplifiers are beautifully constructed with great attention to detail. Mine these days go together very quickly with solid engineering, but no where near the attention to detail you guys do. (Since these days they are all for me that is not an issue as I can tweak to my heart's content) The rectifier is currently a 5U4G, eventually I will try a 5Y3G, (my original intention was to use a 5Y3G, but I must have given them all away as I have now have none on hand) and have also run the GZ32 - however with my now much improved power supply the higher voltage of the GZ32 is just a bit too high without an adjustment to the screen voltage. The transformers are key to a successful amplifier design, and this is the best sounding amp of this genre I have yet heard so I think that says a lot about the transformers.

Hi Kevin,
5U4G rectifier (225 mA) is a bit high for 6V6 single end. 5Y3 and 5Z4 would be better. Power transformer is a basis of power of an amplifier. A good power transformer can provide enough power for tubes and operating voltage and maintain amplifier working in good condition. Output transformer is the last stage of tube amplifier. It is very important to achieve a wide frequency range for output transformer. Thanks for your comments. Regards, Tony. |

I'm still just as pleased with those transformers as when I posted my last comment.
The amp in question was a big hit at the last hifi get together I hosted. Hard to imagine anything better for the price. Highly recommended..
