Hint: Try 6SN7 in SRPP for line stage... I found it to be quite nice despite the mis-application. (Have built several as long as 10yrs ago, have one now for back up to my 26DHT PTLT)
I went through a dubious phase of using SRPP with 12AX7, whilst it sounds ok, the actual output impedance of this combination is >10K, not great for driving anything but a CF IMHO.. A gain of 20dB or less is generally more than adequate for a line stage, and an SRPP connected 6SN7 will give you that with an output impedance of around 1K.
