12AX7-6SN7 Preamplifier

Twin Audio 12AX7-6SN7 preamplifier
This is our own preamp circuit which designs to combine 12AX7 and 6SN7 in one preamp and with 6X5 rectifier and 6SN7 regulation.

great looking ;

but - why - on earth - you are using ECC83 in line stage ?

kevinkr 11th March 2010 04:42 PM

Hint: Try 6SN7 in SRPP for line stage... I found it to be quite nice despite the mis-application. (Have built several as long as 10yrs ago, have one now for back up to my 26DHT PTLT)

I went through a dubious phase of using SRPP with 12AX7, whilst it sounds ok, the actual output impedance of this combination is >10K, not great for driving anything but a CF IMHO..

A gain of 20dB or less is generally more than adequate for a line stage, and an SRPP connected 6SN7 will give you that with an output impedance of around 1K.
