Question Subwoofer connections

Howdy, I have a small single ended amp, it uses two 6p13p Chinese valves (tubes) as the outputs. I have two home made busch horn speakers and I'd like to add a sub. I don't have a preamp and run the cd player straight into the amp.

How do I know the impedance of the sub hi-level inputs. I guess that they should be ok, as they are designed to be inline with the speakers. I'm just a little concerned that I might be putting the sub in parallel with my speakers and dropping the impedance.

Should I be?

Thanks in advance.

Relax! Just be sure to buy a SW with speaker level I/Ps. You connect the SW in parallel with the main speakers. Do NOT "daisy chain".

Below the "corner" freq., the SW's crossover presents a relatively high impedance load to the power amp. As a result, the power amp's load is completely dominated by the main speakers.

Since nothing is connected to the SW above the "corner" freq., no current flows there.

Edit: fixed typos

That makes sense.

I'll do that.

I've got to ask though...Why do they have the speaker out on the subs then?

Thanks.

To save money on cables and/or tradition. With "midfi" SS gear it probably matters little. The arrangement I suggested keeps the SW's crossover out of the signal path above the "corner" freq.
