I am preparing for making one PP based on KT88. I will have 3 electrolitcs after a transformer, 100 uF, 350V.
Which electrolytics would you recommend ? I am not going to use Black Gates WKZ because of their price. I was thinking about Rubicons, but I do not have any experience with them ... Any comments ? Regards Dejan |

Don't worry about the caps.
The JJ caps here look good: http://www.partsconnexion.com/catalo...ctrolytic.html Lots of caps here: http://www.fragjanzuerst.de/ |

If I were you, I'd be more concerned about whether I'd chosen the right values. Have you simulated this using PSUD2? If not, it's far to early to fret about boutique capacitors.

I bought a box of cheap low profile 1000 mkF 200V caps made for computer power supplies. Pair in series give 500 mkF 400V. I use 68K resistors in parallel with each (bleeding + voltage aligning). Great sound!

I've used the fancy stuff and the cooking grade (but with a 105 degree C rating) and didn't find any advantage to the former other than status. Panasonic TSNH, Nichicon GU, and Chemicon KMH/KMQ have all worked well for me. If you want to spend the bucks, use more reasonable values and go polypropylene rather than trying to polish a turd by using high $$$ electrolytics.

Rubycon's are great! 100uF @ 350V are typically $0.60 from overseas... the same people that make Black Gate.

As said earlier, if your going to spend money on fancy caps, polypropylene in oil motor run caps are in another category from elcos of any sort. Though they are rather larger in bulk. 80-100uF oil motor caps are common and low ESR is assured. Just make sure they are non ferrous, any will do, industrial motor customers are more demanding than consumer electronics. I dont know overseas but such caps can be had for $10-$15 each here.
