Im deciding between these two projects:
http://www.ax84.com/?pg=legacyprojec..._id=p1-extreme (guitar amp) http://www.boozhoundlabs.com/howto/ The benefits of the former is that there is a kit available, and more importantly, a prepunched chassis. I'm worried about the high voltages and the other complications involved in the design (the tone stack, the more complex power supply), I'm not entirely sure how it works. Building it shouldn't be difficult, since there is a layout and a popular forum. I think I have a firm grasp on how the boozhound works, but the downside is that I would be building it from scratch, which isn't that big of a deal, but it I more or less more interested in the design than how to punch chassis'. So I guess its a choice between complicated design/easy construction or simple design/difficult construction. Any advice? |

I'd say do BOTH, then you can jam along with tunes playing out of your DIY stereo on your DIY guiar amp! ... but start with the AX84. it wil be half as complex since you are only building up a single channel with half as many tubes, and it will be a cheaper place to start because of the lower transformer count and power supply demand. plus you will have a good support network of hundreds of people that have built up that exact same design on their BBS.

cheers |
