any thoughts/explanation on the power supply for this circuit?

I guess I'm confused to the purpose of the 2nd 5R4.

The circuit is drawn a little strange, but both tube are used as half wave rectifiers. The outputs of them are in series.

It's a voltage doubler using valves, that's all.
