Default Amp Tubes

I have been looking for a tube amp 20w to power my electrostatics. Being
a high imp load. What type of tube amp should I be looking for? I would think it should be a push-pull type or am I off base. Is there a basic tube type (12ax7, 6gw8 etc.) and how many tubes, transformers
should there be? Can someone provide a schematic, site or model# I can look at. Thanks to all,I do love this forum. Willy

What you should be looking fo is all up to you, single ended (SE), push pull (p-p), ultralinear (ul) tetrode or pentode. Its all up to what sound you like. Tubes are the same way, 2A3's are good, sound like they have decent bass and are a triode. 6L6's, KT88's,, are pentodes, and used quite regularly in higher watage amps, and supposedly sound good there are tons of tube that are used. Best thing to do is search this site and read the post of others about tubes and their sounds, and schematics, there are many to choose from.

For 20W I say PP. An output transformer suitable for 20W SE is huge and expensive.

Go to google image search and type EL34, 6CA7, 6L6, 6L6G and KT88.

After that, come back and ask.

Do like the rest of us and start buying tube amps and sell the ones you don't like.... You can't say triode is better than pentode, etc. Each amp has it's own plus points and minus points.... Actually can you borrow some amps for starters??

Are you sure? I've seen electrostat measurements, Martin Logan comes to mind, in which the impedance tanks at high frequencies to under two ohms. That's a tough slog for normal tube amps and near impossible for one without feedback. Personally I'ld start at a push-pull (you need the power), triode (all else equal the lowest output impedance) amp with feedback (likely no choice.)
